Online Gambling Market in France Grows at Record Pace

Online Gambling Market in FranceArjel, the French Gaming Regulating agency just released the gambling market results of the first quarter for 2018.  According to the data, the handle on the country’s licensed online gambling operators was worth €847million for the first quarter.  Furthermore, Online Gambling Market in France grew across all vertical gambling type and platforms.

In addition, the online sports betting market showed a 34% rise over the same period last year. The first quarter of 2018 also showed a 55% rise to €147m for its online betting revenue.  Furthermore, this new increase is a new quarterly record for Arjel.

In terms of client activities, the online betting market showed some favorable results for France. Online Player retention rose 36% to 462,500 because of the bonuses offered by gambling operators. The higher results were in part due to favorable sporting results that pushed player wins down to 2.1 points.

Breaking Down the Online Gambling Markets

Wagers on football rose 34% to €147 million which once again, another quarterly record for France. These numbers accounted for 55% of the first quarter’s total betting handle because of achievements of the French National team. In addition, sports betting software companies believe it is also because 2018 is a World Cup year.

Tennis wagering also showed improvements making up 19% of the total wagering handle of the first quarter. Tennis went up 26% to  €163 million.  On the other hand, even online basketball betting went up by 53% accounting for €80.6 million.

The horse racing gambling market went up 9% to €70 million while the Winter Olympics had €4.4 millions in wagers.

One significant improvement took place with the online poker market.  Previously, this market was struggling but now jumped 18% to €1.1 billion; however, their cash game revenue went down 2%. Overall, the online poker tournament fees increased 14$ and tourney revenues grew by 15%.
