Last month, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board began to taking applications for online gambling licenses. Furthermore, licensed casinos in Pennsylvania had until August 14, 2018 to submit their petition for the license. In the end, Pennsylvania Awards Three Online Gambling Licenses which will later in the year enable online gambling within Pennsylvania.
Sportsbook PPH in Pennsylvania do not expect online gambling to be available within the state until later in the year. This is because the PGCB wants to have statewide launch date but still needs to review eight other casinos.
So far, the three casinos who have received an online gambling are Mount Airy, Parx, and Harrah’s Casino Philadelphia. These casinos will now be able to offer poker, slots, and other simulated casino games to on-line players.
More approvals expected in the next two months
Over the next couple of months, the remaining casinos will be reviewed for approval. The process consists of background reviews of the sub-contractor that will run the online gambling platforms.
According to Doug Harbach, the PGCB spokesman, online gambling is not expected to come before the last quarter of the year.
In order for a customer to play online they will have to meet the state requirements. This includes identity and location within Pennsylvania verification as well as being 21 years of age or older.
