Back in July of 2021, the people of Maryland made sports betting legal within their border by passing bill HB 940. However, it was not until December of 2021 that in-person sports betting became available to its residents. Despite its progress, online sports wagering was not yet available to Marylanders. This is because SWARC (Sports Wagering Application Review Commission) was still had to review the applications for online betting. Well, the wait is now almost over as Online Sports Betting in Maryland Starts on Wednesday.
According to sports betting software solutions, November 23, is the official launch date for all sportsbook apps. Or at least it is for the sportsbooks that have a Maryland online sportsbook license and are ready to go live. While the timing of the launch is in the middle of the football season, it is still pretty decent timing. This is because it comes right at the start of the 2022 World Cup and the Thanksgiving NFL game. Of course, we also cannot forget that this is the final weekend of the regular college football season. Needless to say, a lot of sports betting action will be taking place this week.
According to the Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (SLGCA), online sports betting will be available to everyone. This means that bettors do not need to be a resident of Maryland, However, they will have to be physically present in Maryland in order to place their online wager.
